4K Porn, 4Ever!

After Huccio and Jay Allan studio, its time for Naughty America to take a step in the future by falling for the 4K format (UHD: Ultra High Definition). The company announced they will start distributing UHD content this year for 10$ a month (on the top of the current 24.95$). It’s a big shift for Naughty America, as investing in 4K gears could literally scupper the brand.

Indeed, UHD is not a major move for big cinema studios, because they are already shooting with 4K gear and their post-production facilities are handling UHD without problem. On the Porn side of the moon, most of the content is recorded with cheap DSLRs or low-range broadcast cameras (in HD-1080p) and that’s why the production and  post-production costs are very low and accessible to anyone. From our perspective, turning to 4K format right now, looks like an early bet and very risky investment. But according to the Wall Street Journal, Naughty America is ready to take the risk:

In spite of the costs, Mr. Hronopoulos (Naughty America’s owner) is convinced that the investment will be worth it, because 4K hits at one of the most important selling points for his clientele: giving viewers the ability to feel like they’re really there. “Yes, you need a lot of computing power,” he says. But given the demands of his customers, he added, “the closer we can come to making it feel like you’re there, the more successful we are.”

Porn and New Technologies:

Earlier this month, during the CES 2014, all eyes were staring at the arrival on the market of some “affordable” new-generation 4K massive Tv-displays. Main constructors like Sony, Samsung and LG are in the starting blocks, ready to rumble.

Porn and new technologies are crossing their path again. Like in the past, Porn industry could play a role in orienting the consumer’s choice on a tech-trend. This happened for instance in the 80’s with the VHS Vs Betamax tapes, or more recently with the HD-DVD Vs Blu-Ray’s war. We can Remember for instance that in 2006 Digital Playground and other studios pushed hard for the Blu-ray. This happened alongside the arrival of the PS3 (which is a Blu-ray compatible player). As the Sony PlayStation was quite popular, the Blu-Ray was more capable of touching a wide range of customers than the HD-DVD. So, the Porn industry went Blu-Ray and somehow later, the HD-DVD died. The Adult industry doesn’t have a mainstream/normal system of distribution or retailers, then in the past they always had to think ahead and come with technology oriented solution to hook the customers.

We can still note that the last technology bet with 3D wasn’t that much a success story. Well, it sounds logical that wearing 3D glasses while you touch yourself is not handful. But the weakest point of 3D was the lack of video content to look at. Who knows, an early start of 4K content’s production could avoid the 3D flop.

4K Streaming:

About 4K, mainstream studios and distributors have already been preparing ahead the change of technology. We can take for instance Amazon.com, that will shoot 4K their original series and announced some UHD partnership with big names like: Warner Bros, Lions Gate, 20th Century Fox and Discovery. Or, we can take the example of the 4K arrival on Netflix, with “House of Cards” in UHD and many more videos available, but only for the new-generation 4K TVs (that have the necessary chip to decode HEVC H.265). Nevertheless, you will need a fast speed Internet connection to have a look at it, because the 4K movie will be streamed @ 15.6Mbps.

Therefore, if you want UHD content at home, out of the expensive TV set you will have to buy, you will need to move from your place to have a bigger living room and a fiber Internet access. I mean a 105 inches monster on the wall of your actual tiny room can’t fit. It will certainly heat the place for the winter season but it will burn your eyes.

Unless you are rich, we doubt next year (or the year after) 4K technology will be affordable to all of us. It looks clear that for now 4K will start as a niche. A kind of VIP/Premium offer (like it was done back in the days with full HD content) and this will potentially reach everyone’s house in a few time. Most likely when affordable 3D-screens without glasses will be there with some 8K stuff too. Yeah! Technology race is a bitch.

All in all,  if you watch the actual trend, it’s all about mobile and tablets. Within a 3 years time, the mobile traffic’s part in Porn moved from good 25%  to a stunning 75%. If I would be a Porn website/production owner, I would enhance first the user experience of my mobile product with an enhanced and smart interface. This would give me a unique product, trendy and far much better than most of the actual Porn mobile’s stuff. Meanwhile, I would make serious money and I would kindly wait for the good time-spot to execute a 4k move.

Anyway, we know you already are dreaming about the UHD reality-experience guys. Imagine a vivid Porn where, enlighten by the powerful magic sharpness of your big brand new screen, you will cry on each details of James Dean’s dick and praise every single Asa Akira’s pimple.
